- Please refer to (i) your online application vide ID 62493 dated 16.08.2025, (ii) Initial Approval vide No. D/Mech./13219 Dated 21.08.1976, subsequent Renewals & Amendments given there after, (iii) Previous Renewal vide No. Mech(HQ)/Wire Rope/ UML/2020-21/Renewal-07 Dated 24.12.2020 and subsequent correspondence on the above subject.
- I, in exercise of powers conferred upon Chief Inspector of Mines (also designated as Director General of Mines Safety) under Regulation 208 (3) of the Coal Mines Regulations 2017, hereby renew the validity of this Directorate’s approval Vide Ref. Para 1 (iii) for a period of five years i.e. up to 01.12.2030 without restriction in diameter of rope(s) subject to the conditions as stipulated in letter Ref. Para 1(ii), 1(iii) and the enclosed Annexure-I.
- The application for renewal of approval shall be made 90 days prior to the expiry of the validity of approval.

ANNEXURE – I
CONDITIONS TO MANUFACTURE AND SUPPLY OF WIRE ROPE(S) TO MINES FOR WINDING AND MAN-RIDING HAULAGES PURPOSE.
1. The wire rope(s) shall conform to IS 1855:2022 and IS 3626:2001 or its revised edition.
2. The rope manufacturer shall ensure that the wires comply with IS 1835:1976 or its revised version and, in particular, meet the requirements of this standard with regard to tensile, torsion, reverse bend, and, when appropriate, a galvanizing test. The test results shall be recorded and kept available for inspection at the manufacturer’s works.
3. The lubricants used shall conform to IS 9182 (Part-I to III)/relevant ISO/Internationally accepted standards.
4. The manufacturer shall be fully responsible for the quality of each length of rope(s) supplied to mines. Each rope(s) shall be of good quality, free from any defects or deficiencies and shall give satisfactory performance while in use.
5. Wire rope(s), before supplying to the mines, shall be tested conforming to IS 1855 and IS 3626 of latest version as applicable at any Government approved laboratory or a test house accredited by NABL subject to confirmation of its ability to conduct such tests and such reports or any other information shall be furnished to the user along with each consignment.
6. Field service engineer shall be employed for installation and regular inspection of the wire rope(s) where the wire rope(s) are used and its field service report shall be submitted quarterly to this Directorate.
7. If any defects are found in rope(s) supplied to the mine, which is due to deficiency in quality or manufacturing, the approval hereby accorded shall be liable to be withdrawn.
8. Manufacturing and supply of wire rope(s) to the mines for winding and man-riding haulages purpose shall be following types as mentioned below:

9. If at any time, any of the conditions subject to which this approval has been granted, is violated or not complied with, this approval shall be deemed to have been revoked with immediate effect.
10. The above approval may be amended or withdrawn at any time, if considered necessary in the interest of safety and is being issued without prejudice to any other provisions of law which may be or may become applicable at any time.
