Sub:  Approval No. 489 of 2003 under Regulation 208 (3) of the Coal Mines Regulations, 2017 for Flameproof fluorescent Tube light fitting in mild steel/cast iron construction designated by type No.- FTL-40, rated 2x20W, 125 V AC (Max) for Group -I atmosphere manufactured by  M/s. Safex(India), Dhanbad conforming to IS/IEC 60079-1:2014, IS/IEC 60079-0:2017  for use in belowground Coal Mines – Permissible variation thereof.

Dear Sir,

Please refer to your online application No. 61713 dated 03.11.2023 and letter No.SI/DGMS/FTL-40/23-24/179 dated 04.11.2023 on the above subject & test reports and other documents submitted therewith in this regard.

The matter has been examined and based on the CIMFR test report No. IN/CIMFR/TR23/S/H287 dated 03.11.2023, following permissible variation is allowed without affecting flameproof features of the above apparatus subject to fulfillment of the conditions stipulated in DGMS approval No.  489 of 2003:

i) Alternatively the Fluorescent Tube Light fitting may be fitted with inbuilt or separate Isolator / Rotary Switch / Switch and with or without wire guard without altering the total flameproof features.

ii) Alternatively the Fluorescent Tube Light fitting may be used upto and within 2 x 100 W or 4 x 50 W or 5 x 40 Watt and with different (either of the) combination of COB/SMD/Cluster of LED at 110/125 V AC with or without mirror polished reflector.

iii) Alternatively the equipment is suitable for rating upto and within 100 watt with combination of 2/3/4 nos. cluster of LED/LED bulb at 110/125 V AC.

iv) The equipment may be used as Flameproof Face light fitting or Flameproof Flood Light fitting upto and within 200 watt COB/SMD/Cluster of LED at 110/125 V AC.

v) Alternatively the Fluorescent Tube Light fitting Type FTL-40 may be termed as Flameproof Tube Light fitting (Compact design) or Flameproof LED Light fitting, overall length 450 mm to 500 mm ±10% by volume with flat toughened glass.
 

This letter shall always be accompanied by any previous letters for inclusion of permissible variations and Directorate’s approval and renewal thereof.
