Subject:  Approval of Multi Gas Detector Model – VENTIS PRO 5 with and without integrated pump for detection of single to five gases (LEL - Methane, CO, CO2, O2 & H2S) manufactured by M/s Industrial Scientific Corporation, USA, for use in Coal Mines.

Dear Sir,

Please refer to online vide application No - MSE-29022|62281|2025|MSE(HQ) dated 21.03.2025 on the above subject.

In view of the satisfactory performance reports from the user mine and  test reports from M/s UL, LLC, USA  vide Test Certificate No.IECEx UL 15.0114,  dated 17.04.2023; IECX Quality Assessment Report summary No.GB/SIR/QAR06.0029/12, dated 19.06.2024;  I, in exercise of the powers conferred on Chief Inspector of Mines, also designated as Director General of Mines Safety under Regulation 129(6) , 138(4)(c)(ii) & (iii), 169(1)(a) ,141, 148(3)(c) and 208 of the Coal Mines Regulations, 2017, hereby approve Multi Gas Detector Model- VENTIS PRO 5 with and without integrated pump, manufactured by M/s Industrial Scientific Corporation, USA for detection of  single to five gases (LEL-Methane/CO/H2S/O2/CO2)  for use in Coal Mines, subjected  to strict compliance of the following conditions:-

1.(a) The Multi Gas Detector VENTIS Pro 5 with and without integrated pump for detection of LEL (methane), carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, oxygen and carbon dioxide gases shall be identical in construction to those tested at M/s UL, LLC, USA, referred above.

(b) DGMS approval No.SA-02/2025 shall be marked on every Multi Gas Detector Model VENTIS PRO 5 with and without integrated pump.

(c) (i) No change in the design or construction including the materials etc. shall be made unless an approval for the same is obtained from this Directorate in writing.

ii) Any replacement of part required for maintenance of the equipment which is directly or indirectly connected to the FLP/IS features thereof shall be supplied by the manufacturer as and when required.

(d) It shall be ensured while using/installing that the detector is not subjected to any mechanical stress and it shall not be used in ambient temperature outside the range of (-) 20°C to (+) 50°C for the sensor type 4C-LEL or (-) 20°C to (+) 60°C for the sensor types 4B-LEL and 4L-LEL.

(e) It shall be recharged  in safe area only (Maximum input voltage shall be 6.2 V and maximum input current shall be 1.3 A).

(d) An officer of this Directorate may, at any time draw samples from the suppliers or from the users and get it tested at the cost of manufacturer. If the test report is not satisfactory, this approval shall be deemed to be suspended.

2. Every customer shall be provided at the time of delivery of each of the equipments referred above with an instruction manual on the maintenance, handling, installation and operation of the equipment and a copy of this approval letter from this Directorate.

3. Manufacturer shall prepare SOP for the safe  use of the apparatus inconsultation with the user mine.

4. The product shall be tested at any Govt./Govt. approved laboratory whenever standard of the testing regime changes and the approval is revalidated from this Directorate under new/revised testing standard (s).

5. (a) To ensure proper quality of the product supplied to the users, routine quality control tests shall be carried out and records thereof kept maintained. A certificate to this effect shall also be furnished with each consignment. Moreover, the 'acceptability' tests, as may be considered necessary, shall also be carried out at the laboratory or test house agreed to between the users and the suppliers.

(b) Any complaint from the consumer about the quality of the gas detector shall be promptly attended to and also be brought to the notice of this Directorate immediately.

(c) A statement of the supplies made to mines along with their addresses at the time of renewal of approval, if intended, for obtaining performance report in prescribed format.

(d) The manufacturer and their authorized representative shall jointly ensure provision of the following amenities, under intimation to this Directorate, to cover all the mines where the instrument has been supplied:

i. adequate arrangement for after sales services and maintenance of the instrument,

ii. adequate facilities for training on use and care of the instrument, and

iii. prompt supply of spares.

6. Please note that the above approval is also subject to the following additional conditions: -

(a) If at any time any of the conditions subject to which this approval has been granted is violated or not complied with, this approval shall be deemed to have been revoked with immediate effect.

(b) This approval is being accorded without prejudice to any other provisions of any statute, which maybe or may become applicable at any time.

(c) This approval may be amended or withdrawn at any time if considered necessary in the interest of safety.

7.This approval shall remain valid for a period of five years from the date of issue of this letter.
